Our family trees, Czech Republic, March 2015

Among the activities that were deployed in Czech Republic was the ‘Embracing Cultural Diversity’ activity. Selected tasks of the proposed activity were implemented in the class.

“How far back in the history of your family can you go?”

With this as a pivotal question, the 6th graders of ZS Kolin primary school (Czech Republic) with the support of their parents explored their cultural backgrounds, family history and created their family trees. The class teachers took all the necessary steps in order to establish an atmosphere of trust and advised the students to share only information that they feel comfortable with.

The family trees were depicted in posters that were placed in the school wall. The activity was concluded with a discussion that aimed at motivating the students to see the world in new ways, to see cultures, including their own, to think and to act inter-culturally.
